YOUR COUNTRY IS NOT MINE
Baden tao ko padian a di ped ko pasae (you live in a market place, but you don’t own a store) a Meranao saying which my father is always reminding me, I never fully understand the significance of its meaning not until this May 10, 2010 election. My father advising me to study my lessons, read books, and learned to imagine my future so that someday I could not be called a man who live in a market and do not owned even a small mobile stall.
If you don’t have a stall in market, you participation is like a stevedore, porter, and baggage carrier, or the worst is a robber and stealer.
In Bangsamoro culture, every clan has its own distinguish leader, that man decides everything, he could stop the marriage ceremony of his nephews and nieces, he could declare war against the other clan, and he could invoke to his family the candidate are they going to vote.
He garnered his influence to his clan through his past reputation, he might be the most brilliant among his clan, the bravest, rich, and a man of heart, or the most senior. The rest members of the clan are followers, they do not have the right to decline the orders of their leader or even to suggest. The reason of their being obedient is within the blood of each and every member of the clan, it is better to die than to suppress the mandate of their clan leader. It is a fact that the clans respect the other clan because of the latter’s leader, and the clan united as one soul due to their leader.
Those clan leaders who have the means to join the local election will definitely file their certificate of candidacy in Comelec, they will spent all their money, they will sale their real properties, and even to sacrifice the lives of their relatives. For what reason? For honor, glory, name, and pride, because they do not want people to called them as ‘’Baden tao ko padian a di ped ko pasae.’’
I am sorry to disappoint others of not including the dedication of our leaders to uplift the lives of the Bangsamoro as one of the reasons in participating the local election, because as of now that proposition is a mere theory.
Here comes the most awaited election, the most expensive election, and the most thrilling election. I was thrilled not because of PCOS machine and the other changes in our election, but because some of the Bangsamoro elites join the election. Tamano and Lao were the most popular of them. Tamano prepared himself for the election, he became known as the opposition spokes person, and used the MOA-AD as an opportunity to capture the Christian community.
At first I was not in favor of Tamano due to his participation in MOA-AD, but in a long run I realized that it is the time for the Bangsamoro to have a voice in the senate, although Tamano is against to the Bangsamoro struggle, I still believe that on his heart he will do something good for the Bangsamoro. In my mind before the election is that he must prove that we are not that type of people who live in the vicinity of the market who do not own a stall or store.
Now the election has passed, and what happened? Tamano and Lao were both lost.
What is the message? The message is that the majority member of this country wanted to say to all the Bangsamoro na bakano den tao ko padian na dikano ped ko pasae, or in a very simple way that all of you Bangsamoros are mere second class citizens of this country, you do not have the right to land in the senate because it belongs only to the real citizens. Or let me put it in a very very simple way that all of you Bangsamoro are mere slaves in this country.
ACCEPT IT THAT BATANO DEN TAO KO PADIAN NA DITANO PED KO PASAE…..!!!!! Therefore, we are the stevedore, porter, and baggage carrier, or the worst is a robber and stealer. |

Well, it's a nice attempt to practice your English 1. Just a piece of advice, try to reconcile your SV agreement and it would be a nice start for you! Believe me buddy! |

I presumed you are asking for an honest comment. Well, first you’ve got a lot of errors in your English. Among many other errors, take this, for instance, “Tamano and Lao were both lost.” If they were lost, there must be a search party to find them. They are a rare breed among the Moros and we cannot afford to lose them.
Your translation into English of that Maranao “pananaroon”, “BATANO DEN TAO KO PADIAN NA DITANO PED KO PASAE…” is also wrong. Literally, this should translate into “We are just among the people in the marketplace but we do not transact business”.
The title of your post, YOUR COUNTRY IS NOT MINE, doesn’t seem to be the right title for your post for so many reasons but which I think I don’t need discussing them here. I think you should heed your father’s advice to study well and perhaps earn a law degree, read more and continue practicing and improving your English. The truth is that you have the potential to be a writer. |
