The Digitalized May 10 election has passed and while it has received so much negative comments I see one good advantage that the media is not talking about. True Empowerment of the Electors. One must have observed that vote buying was reported rampant even in Manila and all over the country. It was worst in Lanao. but then the election results are true representation of peoples' votes and decisions. The comelec, deped, military, pnp, lawyers and the like has so little to collect from candidates. They had not power nor chance to alter casted votes. there was to tallying, no counting, no election returns to fill up many times in different versions, no lawyers to debate on election returns. Candides nationwide knew that they must directly influence the individual voters to win - so they influence, they force and they buy voters. REsoures are redirected to voters. A real good start indeed. |

Agreed, Stranger. There were certainly problems with vote-buying and some old tricks the automation failed to eliminate but as a whole, the results were much more reliable compared to the past elections. It was a good start indeed and would certainly be better by the next election. |

I agree, it was indeen a good start. While the automation did not eliminate other election fraud and irregularities, but it more credible than results of past elections. Indeed, winning SB members were also happy, they were not cheated by members of the MBOC and the winning Mayors. What saddened me now is the proclamation of COMELEC that we will go back to the Manual system come Barangay Elections. What a pity considering that Barangay election is hotter than local elections. |
